All I Want For Christmas

It’s no secret that I love books and if that’s all I got for Christmas that would be amazing! It is with this Christmas spirit that I’ve compiled a list of books that I really want this year. Some are old, some are new but they are all on my very, very long to-be-read list. Let’s start out the new year with a few books off the list, shall we?

Wait For You by J. Lynn

17314430Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

I recently fell in love with Jennifer Armentrout’s (or J. Lynn) Luxen series so I can’t wait to see what her adult stuff is like.

The Oathbreaker’s Shadow by Amy McCullough

13643064Fifteen-year-old Raim lives in a world where you tie a knot for every promise that you make. Break that promise and you are scarred for life, and cast out into the desert.

Raim has worn a simple knot around his wrist for as long as he can remember. No one knows where it came from, and which promise of his it symbolises, but he barely thinks about it at all—not since becoming the most promising young fighter ever to train for the elite Yun guard. But on the most important day of his life, when he binds his life to his best friend (and future king) Khareh, the string bursts into flames and sears a dark mark into his skin.

Scarred now as an oath-breaker, Raim has two options: run, or be killed.

This one looks so awesome that the only reason I haven’t bought it is because I’ve had a hard time finding it. I really want to get my hands on this one.

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

11808950Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

This book has been on my radar for awhile, but it wasn’t until Jennifer Armentrout brought it up in her Luxen series that I felt the need to read it.

Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes

16000044Love, power, and magic collide with war in the second book of the Falling Kingdoms series

Auranos has fallen and the three kingdoms—Auranos, Limeros, and Paelsia—are now united as one country called Mytica. But still, magic beckons, and with it the chance to rule not just Mytica, but the world…

When the evil King Gaius announces that a road is to be built into the Forbidden Mountains, formally linking all of Mytica together, he sets off a chain of events that will forever change the face of this land, forcing Cleo the dethroned princess, Magnus the reluctant heir, Lucia the haunted sorceress, and Jonas the desperate rebel to take steps they never could have imagined.

Falling Kingdoms was awesome. Enough said.

Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards

16148491Ash and Natalie are just starting to build a life together when things in the United Sentry States go from bad to worse. Ash and Natalie find themselves at the center of turmoil when dictator Purian Rose threatens Natalie’s life unless Ash votes in favor of Rose’s Law—a law that will send Darklings and other dissenters to a deadly concentration camp known as the Tenth.

When Ash can’t bring himself to trade Natalie’s life for those of millions of Darklings, her fate is sealed. Enter Elijah Theroux, the handsome Bastet boy Natalie once saved from her mother’s labs, where he’d been experimented on and tortured. It was his venom the Sentry used to create the lethal Golden Haze, the heart of the government conspiracy that led to Black City’s uprising and Ash’s rebirth as the Phoenix, the face of the rebellion. Elijah is back and Ash doesn’t like him; it’s clear he’s taken with Natalie, and Ash fears she may have feelings for him as well.

But Elijah also may have the answer to taking down Purian Rose for good—a powerful weapon called the Ora. Ash, Natalie and Elijah just have to escape Black City undetected to find it. But fleeing the city and finding this weapon (if it even exists) are easier said than done, and the quest could tear Ash and Natalie apart, even pushing them into the arms of others.

I loved Black City and I really want to see what happens next.

Dare you To by Katie McGarry

13561164Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. “Dance with me, Beth.”

“No.” I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again….

“I dare you…”

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk’s home life, they’d send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn’t get her, but does….

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can’t tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn’t be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won’t let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all…

This one has been on my radar for awhile too. Pushing the Limits wasn’t my favorite book but I can’t help but feel like I need to see what happens to the rest of the characters.

There are many, many more, but that’s just a few. What do you want for Christmas this year?

Reckless by S.C. Stephens

As much as this series has grown on me, this book is a bit over the top, but I still truly adore Kiera and Kellan

13600318Can love survive when life gets Reckless?

When the band hits it big, Kiera and Kellan must ask themselves: Can their love for each other survive the constant pressures of superstardom? The friendships they’ve formed, the new family they’ve found, and the history they’ve forged will all play a part in helping them navigate the turbulent waters of the band’s exploding popularity. A greedy executive hell-bent on success, a declining pop star looking for an edge, and a media circus that twists lies into truths are just some of the obstacles the lovers will have to overcome if they are going to remain together. Fame comes with a price-but will it cost Kiera and Kellan everything?

There’s no doubt that the romance between Kiera and Kellan sizzles, but they do a lot of crazy things *cough* get married in a bar (which isn’t real) *cough*. I struggled to see the romance in this without thinking that they were just crazy, naïve kids. Although this aspect irks me, what saves this book for me is Kellan. I love seeing his inner demons and how they affect the relationship. At times, I could care less about Keira but Kellan’s inner thoughts fascinate me. The balance between the experienced and damaged with the inexperienced and unfaithful is a crazy combination.

Now that the band has made it big, Keira and Kellan have a variety of obstacles to overcome, the paparazzi and the gorgeous pop star Sienna. I thought this aspect was unique with the exposure of the dirt and greed of the music business. How Keira and Kellan make it through everything is true to their characters and makes for a sigh-worthy ending.

One issue I had at the end (and this is a minor spoiler) is nowadays love stories end with marriage and a baby. Why can’t it just be happily ever after? I may be the only girl in the world that this bothers (I’ve yet to get baby fever and I’ve been married almost three years) but babies just turn the romance into the mundane of everyday life. Maybe it’s just me though.

Anyway, this series started off rocky. The second book renewed my belief in this series and in the author and this final installment really wrapped up the trilogy nicely with a satisfying ending. If you’re looking for a New Adult romance, give this one a try.

Effortless by S.C. Stephens

Effortless by S.C. Stephens is the sequel to Thoughtless, which was a hurricane of emotions and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep reading the series. I was convinced to keep going since the second book was much better and they were right. The second book is everything I had hoped the first book would be.

15842441After being caught in the middle of a love triangle which led to a devastating betrayal, Kiera pledged to learn from the mistakes she made. She was determined to never again inflict that kind of pain on anyone, especially the soulful, talented man who held her heart. But life offers new challenges for every relationship, and when Kiera’s love is put to the ultimate test, will it survive? Love is easy . . . trust is hard.

I have a confession to make. In the first book, I was team Denny and I thought Kiera was just a really immature heartbreaker. So in book two, I had to adjust back to Kiera’s voice and accept Kellan as the love interest. Within the first few pages, I was sold. The romance between Keira and Kellan is electric. Their relationship is hot, but sometimes turbulent, sweet, but sometimes sour. This book is a great representation of rebuilding a relationship where trust has been broken.

I really enjoyed this book. There was a moment when Denny comes back and it becomes evident that both Keira and Kellan are lying to each other. I cringed in anguish. All I could think is NOT AGAIN! But this time there is a happy ending and I was satisfied, where the first book left me reeling in hate and confusion.

I’m glad I gave Stephens a second chance. This book was a lovely romance with steamy sex scenes and real issues that couples face today. The last book in the trilogy, Reckless, is out and I’ll definitely be reading it.

Releases and Recommendations

It’s Tuesday! The wonderful day books are released to the world. The book I’m anticipating this week comes so highly recommended that I pre-ordered it. (I never do that!) These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman will be released Today, Tuesday, December 10, 2013. (So you don’t have to wait long at all!)13138635

It’s a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

I have heard A-MAZ-ING things about this book. It has so many 5 star reviews, I had to pay attention. The cover is gorgeous and people say that the book lives up to the cover so I’m super excited to delve into this one. I’m a sucker for the delicate girl in a harsh terrain with a manly man and of course they fall in love.  I’m reading this one as soon as it’s delivered to my front door!

It’s Tuesday! The wonderful day that books are released to the world. This week, I’m anticipating the release of Night Broken by Patricia Briggs, which is released on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.

night broken_front mech.inddAn unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Mercy Thompson is another one of my all-time favorite characters. Patricia Briggs is a badass and her characters are amazing! I mean, she created Adam, the pack alpha, and he is yummy and perfect. I love how Briggs expands on the many different relationships that Mercy has since she’s been the pack alpha’s mate. The last book, Frost Burned, was pretty kickass and original.  I can’t wait to see what Briggs comes up with next.

Cover Reveal: Seconds Before Sunrise by Shannon A. Thompson

I am so honored and super excited to be part of the cover reveal for Shannon A. Thompson’s  Seconds Before Sunrise, the sequel to Minutes Before Sunset (which I LOVED!) and the second book in the Timely Death Trilogy. Seconds Before Sunrise will be available March 22, 2014. Here it is!!

SBS CoverTwo nightmares. One memory.

“Chaos within destiny. It was the definition of our love.”

Eric has weeks before his final battle when he’s in an accident. Forced to face his human side, he knows he can’t survive if he fights alone. But he doesn’t want to surrender, even if he becomes the sacrifice for war.

Jessica’s memory isn’t the only thing she’s lost. Her desire to find her parents is gone and so is her confidence. But when fate leaves nightmares behind, she decides to find the boy she sees in them, even if it risks her sanity.

Did you know that the second book was written first? I can’t imagine not knowing what I know now about Eric and Jessica going into this book! However, it must have been fun for Thompson to go backward in time and figure out how Eric and Jessica met.  All I know is I am super pumped to see what happens now that Jessica’s lost her memory. I’m looking forward to her reliving all those beautiful moments with Eric, at least I hope she gets to remember!
